Our Art Department is a modern, forward-thinking department. We incorporate the use of new technologies and methodologies into our teaching.

A significant number of our students go on to study art at third level institutions and we are very proud of this tradition. However, we also recognise the importance of studying art for all of our students as the training they get in thinking creatively will benefit them in all aspects of their lives and work. As Einstein said “Imagination is more important than knowledge” and we are in the business of nurturing young imaginations. For all disciplines, students will:

• record observations, experiences, ideas, information and insights appropriate to their intentions

• identify a problem in art and design

• research and collect relevant data

• visualise possible solutions and evaluate their effectiveness

• use a variety of materials and techniques appropriately

• show an understanding of differing applications of visual language as appropriate when working in different disciplines
