Welcome to the French page of St Joseph’s Mercy Secondary School.

French is a very beautiful and important language and is commonly used as a language to communicate all over the world. French is the 15th most spoken language in the world by number of native speakers, and 5th in terms of daily speakers. It is an official language in 29 countries.

The exam at both Junior and Leaving requires that the student can complete a Letter/Postcard, Listening Comprehension and Reading Comprehension. The Leaving Certificate also includes an oral exam.

Leaving Certificate French follows a common syllabus framework for the teaching and examining of modern languages in the Leaving Certificate.

The syllabus aims to develop learners’ communicative skills in the French language, to develop their strategies for effective language learning and raise their awareness of cultural, social and political diversity.
